What does starting your day with greens have to do with sugar?
*Peter asked me something similar when I told him about including this in the ELS Program.
But it actually has A LOT to do with sugar!
When you start your day with something green, and living (raw foods), you’re more likely to crave something healthy for lunch and keep the cycle going for rest of the day.
What Are Greens?
- kale
- chard
- spinach
- romaine
- celery
- cucumbers
- etc.
These are some of the most alkaline foods you can put into your body; whereas sugar is on the other end of the spectrum, being one of the most acidic things you can put into your body. You want your body to be slightly more alkaline than acidic.
Sugars Crave Sugars. Greens Crave Greens
It’s pretty simple, but it’s a non-negotiable when it comes to cutting back on sugar and living an overall healthy life.
When I look back at what I used to eat first thing in the morning, say 5 years ago, it looked something like this:
- Cereal (I loved Honey Bunches of Oats w/Peaches & Cocoa Puffs!)
- Bagel w/strawberry cream cheese
- or a Luna Bar
I know this isn’t out of the ordinary for most people. That being said, it contains nothing green or living, so it’s no wonder I would be craving sugar all day long.
Starting your day with something green is the key to avoiding sugary cravings, the 10 am crash, and will even help you lose those extra pounds!
*** We haven’t missed a green juice first thing in the morning for years! Seriously, even when traveling, camping and backpacking! That’s how important it is to us and that’s how important we want it to be for you … at least in the next 4 weeks.
For the next 4 weeks, start your day with…
- Green Juice
- Green Smoothie
- Green Salad
Whatever makes sense for you, but make sure the first thing into your body (after morning lemon water) is something green.
