I don’t know about you, but it seems like everywhere I look I see Essential Oils! It could be because we welcomed them into our life about 7 months ago. You know what I’m talking about, you never hear or see something, but then you talk about it one time and all of a sudden it’s showing up all over… what’s that called anyways?!
Well we happily welcome them:)
Essential oils are popular right now, I think for a few reasons…
Endless ways to use them
- Unlimited positive case studies of Essential oils curing illnesses & treating disease
- Boosting immunity
- Natural cleaning solution
- Portable
- Digestive dilemmas abated
- Flavor enhancers
- Bring on the zzz’s
- Skin & hair care possibilities
- Aid in weight loss
- Make your home smell wonderful
- Ease anxiety
- Relax sore muscles
- And on and on…
Pretty much, whatever problem you’re having there is an oil for that. It’s amazing, but Peter and I have been using them for everything from diffusing them in our home, to meditating with them, cooking with them, using them on my back when I got injured and even making hand sanitizer for our travels.
If you haven’t been bombarded with EO… and are curious what they actual are: They are natural aromatic compounds found in the seeds, bark, stems, roots, flowers, and other parts of plants.
Inspiration/Groups
I think another reason they are so popular is because all of the inspiration and ideas floating around.
If you search Pintrest you’ll find thousands of boards dedicated to all the wonderful things you can do with essential oils. Recipes and blends of oils you can create. I have a huge list of things I want to try and have barely made a dent in the past 7 months.
There are also a bunch of essential oil groups and forums – people spreading information like mad.
I belong to 2 essential oil groups and have been invited to like 10 others, which just shows me there is an interest. If you are interested in joining a group, I suggest doing a search on FB, I’m sure you can find a few:) Peter and I are in the process of starting our own group, so let us know if you are interested.
Where to get them
You can get essential oils at the health food store. However, most of them aren’t pure oil – they’re diluted with alcohol, and aren’t suitable for internal consumption. Peter and I bought some from the grocery store a few years back, and well, I wouldn’t recommend it.
The brand we’re digging is dõTERRA.
dõTERRA is the biggest essential oil company in the world. The reason we like them is because of their quality, which is among the highest on the market (which is super important to us organic lovers!), they have great customer service, unlimited education on the oils and they have an awesome, co-impact sourcing approach (helping growers earn an income and decrease the impact on the environment).
I also really like the dõTERRA bottles… I know it’s a weird thing, but they are dark so they protect the oils from the elements (SUN!) and the labels are printed on the bottle so they don’t peel and look gnarley over time. There are a few other companies that we have researched and have heard not so great things about their growing practices and pesticides.
If you have ever enjoyed the gift of a rose, a walk by a field of lavender, or the smell of fresh cut mint, you have experienced the aromatic qualities of essential oils.
Extra Cash Flow
Another reason they are so popular is because it’s a way for people to earn some serious money. I know a few people who were able to quit their day job and sell oils full time. I think it’s because these oils work and are practical.
A lot of these companies, like dõTERRA, have great training programs and systems in place making it really easy to earn a little or a lot on the side selling these oils. That being said, I think you have to be pretty passionate about it and work your butt off, but it is possible!
