Chocolate Covered Protein Smoothie just sounds good to me… pretty sure it’s the whole chocolate thing.
I feel like as soon as you say ‘Chocolate Covered’ the appeal instantly goes up by at least 10. I made this smoothie last week when I was having a rough day, I wanted to have “smoothie bar” smoothie but I was stuck at home (living the one car lifestyle does have its disadvantages).
Are you familiar with the smoothie bar smoothies?
They always taste amazing.
They usually contain bananas, they’re thick + they have all the cool superfoods and the best granola’s!
Oh, and they usually have more sugar than I would put in my smoothie, but I kinda turn my head and pretend that it tastes that good because they have the cool stuff that we don’t have… it has nothing to do with the sugar content:)
Well lucky for me, the kind people at Sprout Living sent me some of their superfood protein powders to try – I like the Chocolate Maca the best, FYI – and I may have picked up some fancy granola and chocolate covered sacha inchi seeds to take my smoothie to the next level. So, even though I wasn’t going to the smoothie bar, in the end it sure tasted like I did.
Maybe I should have called this the Smoothie Bar Smoothie after all:)
For this smoothie, I ended up using Sprout Living’s Sacha Inchi Protein Powder. It’s simply cold-pressed, optimally dried, and gently milled, Sacha Inchi.
If you’re not familiar with sacha inchi seeds, they grow in the amazon, and have been used as a food source there for over 3,000 years. It’s a great source of complete, plant-based protein, and has a nutty flavor that I really enjoy.
I liked that this protein powder came from a single plant, as plant-based protein blends are very popular right now, which is great, but I have a sensitive stomach, so it can be hard to tell what’s upsetting it if the proteins are all mixed together. I have to say though, I really like the Sprout Living protein powders. They’re all raw, vegan, gluten-free, organic, and contain a lot of really great superfoods.
Now On To The Recipe….
Chocolate Covered Protein Smoothie
- 1 handful spinach
- 1 frozen banana
- 1 handful ice cubes
- 1 Tbsp. peanut butter
- 2 Tbsp. cacao powder
- 1 serving protein powder (I used Sprout Living sacha inchi protein)
- ½ cup coconut milk (may need a little more)
- 1 dash cinnamon
- ¼ cup crunchy granola
- 1 package chocolate covered sacha inchi seeds (Vega makes these)
- 2-4 fresh strawberries, chopped
- Place all smoothie ingredients in a high speed blender and bend until smooth. Don't add too much milk, as you want the smoothie to be thick. Add toppings and dig in.

Rock on with your bad self and the one car lifestyle! This smoothie has got me drooling.
Thanks girlfriend, we make it work:) And you should totally make this smoothie stat!
Well, I just learned of the existence of two awesome things: sacha inchi and smoothie bars. I’m going to look for the powder in the health food store here in Hastings so I can make this. I’ll have to wait until I go to CA again for the genuine smoothie bar experience.
Thats crazy girl! Next time you come to San Diego, Smoothie bowls our treat! We have the best place right by our house:)
