As you may know, Sarah and I finished our Beginner Cleanse a couple weeks ago to help clear up our tinea versicolor (and it worked!).
So now we’re back on regular food, but we’ve carried over one of the requirements in the cleanse: drinking aloe vera juice after lunch & dinner.
The doctor suggested we go with their ‘preferred brand’, but it was super pricy and had a few funky ingredients.
What did we do?
We made our own of course! And it’s SUPER EASY.
*The Aloe you buy at the store is pasteurized…which means it’s no longer a living food- full of enzymes:(
Below are the full instructions to create an amazing elixir to chase all of your meals with – for rapid & peaceful digestion :)
Aloe Vera Juice Recipe
Step #1 – Buy An Aloe Vera Leaf
We get ours from Whole Foods or from Jimbo’s (if you’re in San Diego). They’re located in the cold produce section and usually run about $2.
Note – watch the thorns on these guys as they are SHARP!
Step #2 – Wash & Chop The Aloe Leaf
Give the leaf a quick rinse and chop in half. Slice the skin completely off the curved side of the leaf, exposing the gooey insides!
Then, working your knife back and forth, cut the aloe off the bottom of the leaf, moving from one end to the other.
Step #3 – Chop Aloe Vera & Blend With Lemon Juice
Cut your aloe into smaller pieces and insert into blender along with 2 cups of water and 1 lemon, juiced. Blend on medium-low for 30-45 seconds.
Step #4 – Strain Thru A Nut Milk Bag
Pour the aloe juice from the blender through a nut milk bag or cheesecloth to break up the ‘sliminess’ of the aloe juice.
(trust us on this part! one extra step but so worth it!)
- 1 large aloe vera leaf

- Give the leaf a quick rinse and chop in half. Slice the skin completely off the curved side of the leaf, exposing the gooey insides! Then, working your knife back and forth, cut the aloe off the bottom of the leaf, moving from one end to the other.

Hi, can I use my juicer to make fresh aloe juice? I have been drinking lilly of the desert whole leaf aloe Vera juice so far and I love it. Looking forward to trying fresh. What do you do with the stuff left behind after you filter it?
Hi Dina!
I love Lilly of the Dessert also:) But we do feel better when we make our own raw aloe. As for the juicer we have not tried that but you do have to remove the outside leaf and it’s really slimy so we think the juicer would be more work then if you were to just use the blender. But if you try it…let us know how it turns out!
All of Vera and lemon taste nasty so what do you do to make it taste better

How long does the mixture last or do u make a daily batch to drink ?
Well Veronica, it usually lasts up to a week, but often times we drink all of it by then.

But how about the taste? Mine is so bitter, can it be improved?
Not gonna lie Jeff, it’s not the most delicious thing you’ve ever had. BUT, this homemade version is so much better than the shelf-stable options at the store ;)
I wonder if this can be “preserved” longer to use in a body mist spray?
